Strong import guide

Bring Strong history into the coaching loop.

Iron Coach can use exported Strong CSV history as workout evidence, helping Session Plans, reviews, Exercise History, and Progress views start from real training instead of a blank account.

What to expect

Import is about preserving useful evidence

A good import does not just copy rows. It needs to preserve sessions, sets, dates, and exercise identity well enough for future coaching decisions to remain trustworthy.

Before importing

  1. Export your workout history from Strong as a CSV file.
  2. Keep the export unchanged so dates, exercise names, set rows, reps, and loads remain intact.
  3. Use supervised beta access so any exercise matching questions can be reviewed carefully.

What Iron Coach uses from history

  • Workout sessions and logged sets become the evidence base for reviews and future Session Plans.
  • Exercise names are matched into canonical exercises so progress does not fragment across aliases.
  • Historical records are preserved as past evidence rather than rewritten into a new programme.

What import does not mean

  • It does not guarantee every old exercise name is automatically perfect without review.
  • It does not change what happened in past workouts.
  • It does not replace judgement during a live workout; it gives better context before training.

Why it matters

Imported history makes early coaching more useful

Without history, a coaching system has to start cautiously. With real logged sessions, Iron Coach can show exercise context, review recent work, and generate more informed next-session targets sooner.

Session Plan context

Recent exercise history can be shown before training so the athlete can judge whether the target makes sense.

Exercise History and Progress

Imported sessions become part of the lift-by-lift history used to understand progress and training direction.

Review and calibration

Completed workouts and imported evidence help make future recommendations more explainable and easier to validate.

Canonical exercise identity is the important bit. Iron Coach is deliberately careful about matching exercises because loose names can damage progress history and future prescriptions.
